Savana Pulp at YSDC 2024

Savana Pulp Shines at the Youth for Sustainable Development Conference 2024 in Rabat, Morocco

In the bustling, historic city of Rabat, Morocco, the Youth for Sustainable Development Conference (YSDC) 2024 brought together some of the brightest minds and most innovative projects from across the globe. Co-organized by the African Youth Climate Hub (AYCH) and the Youth for Sustainable Development Network, this event was more than just a gathering—it was a celebration of ideas, collaboration, and actionable solutions to some of the world's most pressing environmental challenges.

Among the standout participants was Savana Pulp, a pioneering startup committed to transforming agricultural waste into sustainable paper products. Our journey at YSDC 2024 was a significant milestone, marking the culmination of six months of hard work, innovation, and relentless dedication under the guidance of the African Youth Climate Hub.

A Stage Set for Innovation and Impact

The YSDC is known for its dynamic atmosphere, where young entrepreneurs, environmentalists, and thought leaders converge to share their visions for a sustainable future. The conference floor buzzed with energy, with booths and stages showcasing a wide array of projects—from renewable energy solutions to groundbreaking initiatives in waste management.

For Savana Pulp, this was the perfect platform to showcase our work. The AYCH Demo Day, a centerpiece of the conference, provided us with the opportunity to present our progress to an audience eager to learn about innovative solutions. Over the past six months, our team had been hard at work, refining our technology, conducting lab work, and developing a product that not only addresses environmental challenges but also holds the potential to revolutionize the paper industry in Africa.

The Savana Pulp Presentation: A Turning Point

Standing before a diverse audience that included investors, environmental experts, and fellow entrepreneurs, we shared our journey—how we harness agricultural waste, such as banana fibers and sugarcane bagasse, to produce eco-friendly paper products. We detailed our efforts in reducing deforestation, lowering water and energy usage, and providing a localized solution to Africa’s dependency on imported pulp paper. The presentation highlighted our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community impact.

Our participation in YSDC 2024 wasn't just about pitching an idea; it was about showcasing the tangible progress we've made. The feedback from the audience was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing interest in our next steps, particularly as we gear up to launch our pilot factory in early 2025.

Networking and Building Partnerships

Beyond the presentation, the conference provided invaluable networking opportunities. We engaged with other startups, exchanged ideas, and explored potential partnerships that could help us scale our operations. The connections made here have the potential to open doors for Savana Pulp in ways we hadn’t imagined.

Looking Ahead

The Youth for Sustainable Development Conference 2024 was more than just an event for Savana Pulp—it was a validation of our work and a reminder of the impact we can make. As we continue to innovate and push the boundaries of what’s possible in sustainable paper production, we carry forward the lessons learned, the relationships forged, and the inspiration gained from YSDC 2024.

At Savana Pulp, we are driven by the belief that sustainability is not just a goal but a necessity. Our journey in Rabat reinforced our commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable future, one sheet of paper at a time.
